1) I would like a video for my business but I don't know where to start. What options are available to me?
The first question we like to ask is why does a business want a video? For example, does the business want the video to be a general overview of what they do and show how they may be able to help with a problem that a viewer might have? Or is the video going to be used to help explain a specific element of what the business does like service they offer or product they sell? Maybe the video requirement is to record an event, promote an offer or simply be used as an advert. Once we understand the reasons for the video, this will usually point us in the direction we need to go. We will take it upon ourselves to ask you these questions first and find out more about your business generally before coming up with a plan of how and what, when and where we would like to record to meet your requirements.
2) Why can't I just record my own business video using my phone for example?
You can and should use your own phone to record elements of your business. The footage will look authentic and give the viewers a realistic understanding of what it is you do. We say that when a client is ready to step up to the next level for a more professional recording of the business, that is where we come in. However, we believe the business should continue to use a phone for recording themselves in their daily lives.
3) Are your business videos expensive?
We do not think that our business videos are expensive and instead think of them as affordable for the smaller business. We base our quotes on our current day rate shown on our website against the number of days we think it will take to complete a project from the initial recording to final delivery of the footage. Simply speaking the more complex or simplistic a video is, the more expensive or budget friendly it can be.
4) Do I visit you or do you come to visit me to record a video?
Generally we visit clients at their premises to record a video. This could be a head office or any other site where business activity is carried out. If we are recording a representative of the business, it is always a good idea to record additional footage showing business activity generally that can be used as part of the video known as B-roll.
5) I've never been in front of a camera to be recorded before. Have you any advice?
It is quite normal to be scared in front of a camera but should be nothing to be worried about. We like to make our clients feel at ease in front of the camera and remind them that nothing is being broadcast live. It is simply a conversation that they would have in their everyday lives. An unexpected bonus can be that a little bit of nervousness can help an interviewee come across as being more genuine than that say of a polished professional actor that could be hired to represent the business. We believe that a viewer should see who it is they might be dealing with and not an actor.
5) What do I do with the video once it has been recorded?
There are quite a few options available to a client once a video has been recorded. It can be embedded within a website so that visitors can learn more about the business rather than just reading about it. It can also be used on as many of the social media platforms that they subscribe to. Square and vertical edits can be rendered too in order to take up more screen space on mobile phones for example making them stand out more. Short extracts can be taken out of the main video to be used as individual social media posts. And a main video or videos can be used to create landing pages about elements of the business as part of a marketing campaign.
6) What are the advantages of having a business video as opposed to not having one?
Advantages of having a business video include a customer or client being able to see what a business is about without having to read about it. A viewer can see at a glance a product or service in action which is considered more engaging than just finding the words to describe the same. A video can also be used to entertain, educate and is genuinely useful for conveying whole concepts, demonstrations and practical, hands-on examples.
7) Why are you called dedrendr?
dedrendr is name we made up based on two things that we come across in the world of video. A dead pixel is a single point on a display screen that is not functioning properly and shows a solid colour, usually black or white instead of displaying the expected dot. To render or the act of rendering refers to the process of generating a final video product combining all of the different elements such as the raw video footage, sound effects, digital effects and other visual graphic effects.
